Changing the mood…

We are all so paranoid with COVID-19 and being self-quarantined. While we are at home, we can do some wonderful things. Maintaining social distancing we can build up new bridges with our families ‘n friends. This could be more fun-filled rather than being boring at home, screen struck, watching movies/TV, playing games, etc. Not that this should not be done but the excess of anything starts taking the fun away. Also, sitting for prolonged hours on your sofa, bed, or your work desk can bring back/neck/shoulder related issues. So what do we do to avoid this and add some fun to our lives?

1. Outdoors:

Sitting inside all day long could be depressing. Spring just started, and the weather is really nice outside. Take some relaxing long walks with your better halves and/or kids. Even if you are single, go out and appreciate nature, just leave your headphones and cell phone at home. It feels ages when we last heard birds chirping in the parks or in our own backyard. Take a walk or jog or ride your bike around the corner and get the energy going. Like you there are others who are going through the same; you may find the parks crowded. So, remember to maintain social distancing!

For those who can, playing those old games like Tag-Game, or simply passing the ball could be fun-filled, and it will bring some old and golden memories back and will be helpful in reconnecting with the family. And kids will love it. Try that! And if you’re super protective, then get out in your backyard, clean it up a bit or simply sit and enjoy a cup of tea/coffee.

2. Cooking:

Now that we have stocked up so much food, we must consume it wisely before it goes bad. Since we have all the time and everybody is home, let’s bring some help to the kitchen. As a matter of fact, we could run some cooking competition within our own family and with friends. Don’t cook traditional food, do something different and exotic. There are tons of recipes online; try it and share it with your friends and family. It sure is rewarding and satisfying. Kids get to learn cooking too. This is a great time to teach them the basic cutting ‘n cooking.

3. Gardening:

If you like gardening, the perennials are on the shelves of Home Depot/Lowes or your local nursery. Yes, both of these stores are open with restricted hours. Do it as a family…

4. Paint your house:

Painting a room (or the whole house) might be another option, in addition to making other pending fixes to your house. Try some minor DIY projects as a family.

5. Board games:

Board games over all the hi-tech computer/mobile games? Yes, these are more fun-filled and bring the families together. Pull the kids out of what they are doing and play competitively.

6. Laundry:

Not all household jobs belong to mommy. Encourage your kids to help out and let’s change the bedsheets in all the rooms. Spray it fresh with your favorite fragrance. This is really helpful; it will take away any unwanted germs, and bring the energy back to you. Folding clothes as a family could be fun. It sometimes leads to a pillow fight…think about it! Act like a kid and add some fun.

7. Cleaning:

We should clean regularly but if you have teens at home you know what I am talking about. Encourage them to get involved. Have some healthy conversations about games, movies, songs, their friends, etc. If they clean it, they will keep it clean…

8. Barbeque:

While you are cooking for the family outside on your griddle, add some music and yard games to make it more exciting.

The list goes on…do the things as a family!

Now, that you get the idea of how to pull the family together, make this excuse of pandemic work to your advantage. Be creative and share ideas with this group and your friends ‘n family, and get out of the negativity this virus has brought to us.

We can beat it together as a family and as a community! Stay Safe, stay healthy!
