What is Tele Physical Therapy?
- Therapy offered remotely in one-to-one or group settings
Is it really effective?
- Depending on the ailment, many problems can be treated remotely whilst some conditions may not be
- We had always encouraged our patients to be independent even at our clinic. This is not different than our pre-existing approach (using bodyweight & progressive force)
- We will be closely observing and monitoring through these video sessions
- Although not all the tools/props will be available at home but we can work with lot of things that are generally around any house (some exercise bands or other props that may not be replaceable can be bought online or through us)
- Patients are keeping healthy & pain free even while we are not there simply by following us what they learnt while at our office
- At last but not least your confidence, as always, will help us achieve together
What I shouldn’t expect?
- Nothing can replace being at our office so that personal touch will be missing
- Hands-On therapy is not feasible remotely
- Electronic modalities/hot-packs/cold-packs (alternatives available
- The same level of socialization
What to expect?
- The same laughter and lively atmosphere
- The same connection with your therapist
- The same care from your therapist, and
- Of course relief from the pain, the reason you are in this session
What is expected of me?
- A little more proactive and open-minded approach
- Be ready to work with/on screen
- Be more self-disciplined
How does new patient or patient assessment work?
- In general, 70-80% of the assessment is based on your response to our questionnaire, your medical history, any pre-existing disabilities/conditions prior to this new issue, your lifestyle, your physician’s diagnosis (if any), and many more
- We’ll evaluate you based on certain movement that we’d ask you to perform and your response to our questions specific to those movements
Does my insurance cover these sessions?
- Most insurances are allowing tele physical therapy and many of these we are already working with. Some insurance like Medicare do not participate in tele physical therapy yet but they are working on to enable it.
- Call our office at (732) 902-2700 to ensure if your insurance will cover the expenses and what your liability will be. The least we want is to see any surprises from your perspective as well as ours. Like always, we are very transparent and will share whatever your insurance tells us during our eligibility and benefits check. However, we highly recommend that you should verify your benefits with your insurance directly as well.
Do I need a prescription?
- It is always better to have one. Most primary care physicians are working Tele-Med. So, obtaining one has never been easier than now.
- There are certain scenarios and insurance where prescriptions may be mandatory. Call our office and we’ll guide you through.
How do I connect with you remotely?
- Tele physical therapy is provided through HIPAA compliant web conferencing tools only. We’ll send you the link to connect with us securely.
